Gmail Hotkeys

c Allows you to compose a new message.
Shift + c allows you to compose a message in a new window.
/ Puts your cursor in the search box.
k Opens or moves your cursor to a more recent conversation. You can hit <Enter> to expand a conversation.
j Opens or moves your cursor to the next oldest conversation. You can hit <Enter> to expand a conversation.
n Moves your cursor to the next message. You can hit <Enter> to expand or collapse a message. (Only applicable in ‘Conversation View.’)
p Moves your cursor to the previous message. You can hit <Enter> to expand or collapse a message. (Only applicable in ‘Conversation View.’)
o or Enter Opens your conversation. Also expands or collapses a message if you are in ‘Conversation View.’
u Refreshes your page and returns you to the inbox, or list of conversations.
y Automatically removes the message or conversation from your current view.

  • From ‘Inbox,’ ‘y’ means Archive
  • From ‘Starred,’ ‘y’ means Unstar
  • From any label, ‘y’ means Remove the label

‘y’ has no effect if you’re in ‘Spam,’ ‘Sent,’ or ‘All Mail.’

x Automatically checks and selects a conversation so that you can archive, apply a label, or choose an action from the drop-down menu to apply to that conversation.
s Adds or removes a star to a message or conversation. Stars allow you to give a message or conversation a special status.
! Marks a message as spam and removes it from your conversation list.
r Reply to the message sender.
Shift + r allows you to reply to a message in a new window. (Only applicable in ‘Conversation View.’)
a Reply to all message recipients
Shift +a allows you to reply to all message recipients in a new window. (Only applicable in ‘Conversation View.’)
f Forward a message.
Shift + f allows you to forward a message in a new window. (Only applicable in ‘Conversation View.’)
Esc Removes the cursor from your current input field.

Gmail Notifiers

GCount is a menu bar and/or Dock item that displays the unread status of the inbox of a recently popular email service. It allows to specify an alternate web browser for gCount to use for external links (eg. Open Inbox, Compose Mail). gCount uses your proxy settings, if you use one. Audio files are now scanned for proper extensions.

Gmail Notifier is a Windows program with two optional components: COMPONENT 1 sits in the Windows system tray and notifies a user when Email arrives in a Gmail inbox, and COMPONENT 2 associates “mailto” links with Gmail.

gNotify is a Gmail notification program developed by Michael Isabella of imizzy.com. The gNotify Web site includes download instructions, sample screenshots, and a forum where users can make comments and suggestions and report bugs (from gNotify.com)

GotMailG is a widget for the Dashboard found in Mac OS X 10.4 (and now 10.5 Leopard). It uses the Gmail Atom feed (XML) to determine the number of unread messages in a users Gmail account. This is then displayed using a simple and clear interface that is designed to occupy minimal Dashboard space. GotMailG is Open Source and provided to the public free of charge under the GPL license. GotMailG uses SSL (the same protocol used to transmit credit card numbers) whenever your password is transmitted. Your password is never sent in the clear over the internet. In addition, the password is encrypted when stored in the widget preferances to prevent local users from accessing it.

You’ve Got Gmail is a Gmail notifier plugin for Trillian Pro. You can manage your Gmail accounts, see the list of the accounts (with new emails number) in the My Mail Accounts section of Trillian and get notified when a new e-mails arrive via systray popup windows.
